Since Jeny's Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-Off was published in Knitty earlier this month, a number of knitters have asked me if there is an accompanying stretchy cast-on. It is not blazingly fast, but it’s faster than most of the other stretchy bind-offs out there. It, too, is surprisingly stretchy.

For necklines and front/button bands, I use a standard bind-off in pattern, meaning, if I am working a 1 x 1 Ribbing, I bind off in the same rib with the working needle or one size larger (to avoid making the rib too tight). This cast-on is an accompaniment to Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-Off. For these I use Jeny’s Stretchy Bind-Off but with a needle approximately half the size of my working needle. Should I do a purl row before the bind off? Another common stretchy cast-on method is “Jeny’s Stretchy Slipknot Cast-on” by Jeny Staiman. That's right: the creator of Jeny's Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off has an accompanying cast-on method, and it's by far the most stretchy that we know of.

It's that simple!Beverly! It's an awesome stretchy cast-on, easy to knit and the result is pretty, sturdy and definitely stretchy, making it a perfect cast on technique for top-down sweaters and socks.

She’s also a mama to 2 humans and 3 pets, and she enjoys walking, breathing and drinking tea.I love Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off! It’s my go-to method when I need a simple bind off with flexibility, but sturdy enough to look good on long rows.

So IMO the best way to reach the most people is to accommodate a variety of different learning styles, i.e., use written instructions AND diagrams AND videos. But I have found I want a stretchier bind-off for the bottom edges of sweaters and sleeves. And this one is not a long-tail cast-on so you don't have to worry about how much yarn to leave for the tail.

Therefore, it is a good one to use on socks, hats and garments, but also on shawls which I often find tricky to bind off.The idea behind the JSSBO technique is to work a yarn-over between each stitch.

Please follow step 1 of the “Set-Up” then follow the remaining steps in the section that says “Before a Purl Stitch”I’m ready to bind-off but I am not sure what you mean BO purlwise using Jeny’s BO. Judy's Magic Cast-On and Jeny's Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-Off are real soulmates.
Here is a detailed video of the bind off from Knitting Blooms: View fullsize. But I have found I want a stretchier bind-off for the bottom edges of sweaters and sleeves. The yarn-over will be worked the normal way before a purl stitch, and a reverse yarn over is worked before a knit stitch.Et voilà! Thank you.Emma version c,ribbon on bottom of sweater,do I increase (k1f&b)every 15(k1p1)?On your right needle, pull stitches 2 and 3 over stitch 1; one stitch bound off, one stitch on right needle. It will take me a bit to explore the site and I will enjoy it. It's great for anything involving ribbing or very tight-fitting garments that absolutely require a more elastic edge. You can see it in the Emma photos on our site and in the book, we like it and are fine if it rolls a bit. I get a lot of curling at the hem. It’s so exciting to be reviving the blog once again! If I tell you any more, I'll have to kill you. This is the first email I’ve received from you in many months and I totally agree with you about the JSSBO. This bind off was designed specifically for the smaller needle and we don’t recommend using the called for needle that you used for the rest of the knit which is why we haven’t photographed it.

It feels like a hug from far away! One of these days I'll feel compelled to start knitting sweaters, but until that time, I'm still having way too much fun making socks, gloves, cowls, hats (and most recently, headphone covers).I love your new look, Liat, and am glad to be seeing more of you, as you have SO much to offer the knitting community! So happy to see your smiling face again! This bind off, created by Jeny Staiman, matches the Super Stretchy Cast On, and works great on ribbed edges to maintain stretch without fluttering. It is the most elastic cast-on I know -- more elastic than the classic long-tail cast-on. I’ve taken several classes from you in the past and have learned soooo much from you and your videos. I used to go to great lengths to avoid binding off just about anything, including grafting cuffs to knitted items using knit-purl kitchener stitch.

... 3 Projects to Cast On Now! Jeny's Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-Off on Super-Bulky Toe-Up Socks. It does this feat better than many other stretchy bind-offs, which either flare when un-stretched or stay stretched out once stretched (and nobody wants that).Jeny: Yes! It is moderately stretchy, I would say it is about equal to the Alternating Long Tail Cast On.
